Need help! Question regarding my live-in caregiver

My live in caregiver arrived last June 30, 2014, under the old live in caregiver program... Time flies, and the 2 years is almost up! I have some questions on what the next steps are, and as this place is very helpful, I hope you guys can help me out:

1. The CIC website says either you work the full 24 months, OR 3900 hours (including 390 hours overtime)in 22 months - within the last 4 years.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/caregiver/permanent_resident.asp

By all accounts it is much better to finish the 3900 hours in 22 months so my caregiver can file both the open work permit and the permanent residence early. If my caregiver achieves the 3900 hours and files the owp and pr, how long do I need to extend her contract?

2. I realize the process for the new program is different. Looking around, it seems to be that the steps for the old process are:

- work 24 months, or 3900 hours
- apply for owp and pr at the same time
- extend the contract while waiting for owp
- once owp achieved, wait for pr

is this correct, or am i missing something?

Thanks in advance fam!

1) She can choose option 2 and file it by April 30 onward. In my case I was given a 3 year contract. I know someone who just applied and completed 24 months last year August and had her extension for another 2 years. But she applied it months before her work permit expires so not to lose status in Canada. She received her owp by oct and is still waiting for her pr approval to date.
If you are patient enough to read other posts here, it varies. So it's up to you how long should you give extension. Are you thinking of employing another person after her contract expires? Then, make it as a consideration on your decision.
2) Correct. It should be extend contract first as processing this may take a while, and then apply between the two options, same time application. Wait for owp and pr approvals.
