Hi there, I need some advice ...

I am sponsoring my wife for immigration from Mexico to Canada ... Everything seemed to start good.

My wife is currently living in Oaxaca, So we got the Police report from Oaxaca.

But, she once lived in Villahermosa. In order to do the Police background check for there, they require her to get a certificado de residencia de Villahermosa. The thing is that the clerk told her ... that it is not possible to get a certificado de residencia for time in the past. Only for present, which is not the case.

Any advice welcome!!

(....y que se lo aguanten?). Don't open your cartera unless there truly is a fee. :D

What's a mordida?

A mordida is when they said NO , clerk said not , and you give her a TIP , (money) so she can work on your case. In another words , money talks in some parts of mexico , even do they get paid to help , the extra money helps to get things done faster

Is it not possible to get one police certificate for the entire country? Now that I've read that, I can't tell if that's a stupid question :)

Just wondering...

I'm just wondering how things went for you - we're waiting on a Mexican police check from Distrito Federal, does anyone know how long we can expect to wait? Thanks!

Hi cdarroch,
The Distrito Federal doesn't provide police certificates -the federal police certificate issued by the PGR and obtained by all Mexican applicants regardless of where they live suffices.

If you're waiting on the police check, am I correct to assume that you are not a current Mexican resident who applied for a Constancia de Antecedentes Registrales? I say that because if you go to the PGR offices in d.f. for a constancia you can generally get it on the same day.

If you're outside of Mexico and therefore sent a request to the Canadian Embassy in d.f. for an Informe de Datos Registrales, it takes 60-90 business days. We are waiting on the same thing and I emailed them to ask them how long it takes and that's what they told us. They also took almost 3 weeks after receiving our application for the informe to send it to the PGR.

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep you posted on what happens with us - we sent the documents to the embassy towards the end of November, and haven't heard anything back yet.

In my case the embassy requested the federal for US , the PGR one.

Gigi the link doesn't work. In my case I also just sent the photos and fingerprints to the Canadian Consulate in Mexico city as they requested. Like this I will get the INFORME DE DATOS REGISTRALES.

I didn't know anything about the length of time it takes to process. I will call them! Someone above mentioned it takes 3 months! Does anyone know a way to check the status? Thank you.
