I am currently a resident of Italy and planning to travel to quebec.
Can i enter canada with dry vegetables(legumes, green, Eru,bitter leaves, dry spices etc).?
If so do i have to report myself to the customs for control?
Do i have to pay custom duties?
I am so attached to some of these things :p. I really love eating them.
Thank you all and waiting for your replies :D :D :D

You do have to declare them, but I think you have a pretty good chance of getting them through -- my wife has done this in the States and Canada both, and never had many issues. One time I had to throw out a bunch of ramen noodle packages because the ingredients weren't written in English, but that's about it. If they're worried about foreign pathogens, make sure you land in winter when these would perish horribly.

Be very careful about bringing in medication. Some drugs that you can buy "over the counter" or get on prescription in other parts of the world may be totally banned in Canada. You should ensure that you ONLY bring a small quantity for your immediate use.

The basic rule is, if you are not sure, declare them and let Customs sort it out. All foods should be declared, again to allow Customs to make the decision. You may lose them, but at least you will not be in trouble and be fined.

Your question falls under the purview of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Most of it shoudl not be a problem, however they do have special concerns with anything containing seeds or plant materials that could bring in foreign bugs or plants. Essentialy if it could be used to grow anything (not native to Canada) pretty much forget about it.

This link might help you answer your questions on what.

Duties will most often be driven by two factors (quantity and use). Small quantities for personal use rarely attract duties. So if you are legally able to bring it in, in your suitcase unlikely this will be an issue.

I would recommend that if you are unsure however, declare it, as you do not want to be caught "smuggling". This might get you into some trouble for sure.

Good luck :)

A few of the others have already said it but I"m going to say it as well: Declare all food.

If you don't declare it and they find it, not only will it be thrown out but you will be fined a lot of money and go on record. That means that every time you subsequently enter Canada, you will be sent to secondary to have all of your belongings thoroughly searched.

Thank you all for the advice and the link.
It's just obvious i have to declare my veges.
Its always good to be regular and not to start life in canada on a bad foot.
At first i thought of taking some medications for any unforseen upon arrival ,
but i will not border traveling with them again so as not to complicate my journey upon arrival.
merry merry :) :) :) :)
ciao

Italian vegetables would be more healther and taste better than the "made in china" vegetables and fruits that are here.

I arrived safely with my vegetables. I just had to declare them and that was all, But no control was made on them.
