I was sponsored by my wife 2 years ago and now decided that we want to get my son(from my first wife) but I am not eligible to sponsor him and need to wait for 5 years before I can sponsor a family member. He will turn 19 on February 2019 and won't be eligible then. Can my wife sponsor him even though they are not related by blood? I would appreciate if someone can give us an advice on what to do. Thank you!

Why can't you sponsor him for five years?

If you are referring to the ban on sponsoring someone else for five years after you were sponsored, this means that a PR who was sponsored as a spouse or common-law partner cannot then sponsor a new spouse or common-law partner for five years. A new PR can still sponsor his or her child.

You should immediately start the sponsorship application process. There is no reason to delay because if you have problems obtaining required supporting documents or the medical, you might miss your window of opportunity.
