Hi, I'm writing to ask for your advice.

We are Eritreans and as you know the Dictator government in Eritrea gives no rights what so ever to its citizens and thousands are immigrating every year from Eritrea.

My father immigrated from Eritrea in the early 70s to Sudan then traveled by a work visa to Saudi Arabia two years later, were he got married and lived for 30+ years under work permit and we under his sponsorship since Saudi Arabia has no rights for non citizens to become permanent residents neither get a citizenship so we are living with work permits since then.

We need to travel to Canada because we are always under thread of getting deported to Eritrea since the sponsor (person or company) has the right to deport any of his employees anytime...

I need help to get answers for the following questions:
1 - Would we be accepted as refugees coming from Saudi Arabia directly to Canada although we are Eritreans with Eritrean passports?
2 - If we got accepted would we get access to free Healthcare?
3 - Does the government will provide us free place to leave and for how long?
4- How we will be able to continue our studies? does the government provide loans for studying?
5- How much money we are advised to carry coming to Canada?

I'll mention below my family's information:
- My father is 60 years old, My mother is 44 years old.
- I'm 24 years old and my siblings are 21,19,17 years old.

I'll be waiting to hear from you soon.

Thank you very much.

There are two ways you can apply for refugee status. You would either need to obtain TRVs (tourist visas) to Canada and claim refugee status once you arrive in Canada. Or, you would have to be outside of your home country and be officially recognized as refugees by UNHCR or a similar referral organization.

It's difficult to say if you will be accepted as refugees given how long your parents have been living in Saudi Arabia.

You won't be able to apply as a family. Your parents and youngest sibling can apply together. However the rest of you will have to qualify on your own since you're too old to be dependents in your parents' application.

Thank you very much for your reply,

But would the Canadian government investigate how long we lived in Saudi Arabia?
and please I need to know more about our rights if we got accepted like:
would we be able to continue college studies under a loan for example/ work-study?, our concern basically is 4 things:
- find what we can call a real home country.
- healthcare
- education
- a place to stay.

You will have to declare how long you have been living in Saudi. Yes - of course Canada will investigate this. If you lie, this will be very easily discovered during background and security checks and a refusal will then be guaranteed. Again, I think you will have an uphill battle proving you are refugees given how long you've been living in Saudi. If you wish to immigrate to Canada, then you would be far better off applying to immigrate as regular refugees. You can find out more about Canada's immigration programs here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp

To answer your questions - all permanent residents of Canada are entitled to health care. You can get loans for college / university education. However these are only loans (not grants) and this money will have to be paid back once you finish school. You may get some assistance with housing at the start - however this won't last very long and you will be responsible for finding and paying for your own housing.

You being in saudi arabia does not affect your refugee claim, as far as i know, you cannot become a citizen there.
Also it's a country where human right laws are not much respected, do this issue will not turn against you.
