Need guidance in visitor visa for Parents

Hi Friends

I am applying for visitor visa for my Parents. I am a PR and have been living in Canada for more than a year now with my wife. If anyone could share a sample of SOP and letter of explanation would be very helpful. I want to invite them for about 2 months.
Also wanted to know if the cover letter is mandatory or optional?

Others can comment as well but generally best to start in a visitor application with a 2-3 week stay and if they get longer from CBSA on entry to Canada so be it but there have been posts here where applications have failed when asking for stays quoted in months. Ultimately of course up to you but what you ask for in the application has little bearing on what CBSA grant at the border.
