Need experts advice please..

Hi Friends,

My friend got his work Permit in oil industry from India. He applied through a consultant who is based in Canada. When he reached Alberta, employer told him that he don't have the job anymore due to Oil Industry recession. Employer also took my friend's written exam and told him that he failed in the test and since he could not pass; this is the reason employer can not take him and signed a paper saying he can not keep my friend as he failed the exam.

Now, my friend is having one year work permit from that Oil company. What are his options? Can he still live in the country for a year and look around work elsewhere? Or he has to leave the country as soon as possible?

Can he make any complaint about employer or consultant?

Consultant is Indian and Employer is white Canadian. Apparently Consultant charged him around $10000. What can be the best solution to come out of this situation for my friend..Any suggestion will be appreciable..

First of all what kind of work permit your friend got- closed and with on employer or just closed WP for one province?

From the situation you described l looks like he got closed work permit with one company. Many workers got laid off who worked in oil industry due to prices going. I know this as I work in a industry where few customer are on work visa and all who work in the oil industry had to go back to the home country and wait until there is demand.

Your friend should read the news releases of the company he was going to work for. Here are few:

Also he gave very big amount of money Rs/ 5 lakh. That is not even the fee to get a work permit. :-X

Sorry for the loss you friend had but if there is no demand of work, money can't do anything. Especially in closed work permit.
Looks like not many things working in his favor but he can always try contacting the employer and ask for work permit extension if can give his exam again ???

Yes, he paid too much money but thats how much consultants ask if they help anyone from India.. Thank you for your suggestion and help Much appreciated.

We all know that it is a stupidity to give that much money but even after knowing it we are giving all the hard earned money to them when there is no solution its worst. He should try to get some part of the money back :-X

You are right. Lets see what happen. Surely he should be able to get some money back..
