my girlfriend was already landed in canada. during her first month there, not knowing, she got pregnant, of course by me, and is 3 months pregnant. we are not yet married, she also had her PR card already. questions are:

1. will there be any issue regarding to the baby about birth registration issue? i wanted the baby to be named after by my last name. problem is that we're not married.

2. we were planning to have a civil marriage in our home country, then return again in canada before she give birth to our baby. will there be any issue again to the birth registration? i have read that i still need my sign during the registration but i cant afford to go to canada as of now. and i think will take a year before my fiance sponsors me and immigrate there. can you give me advice for these matter.

3. what will happened if she give birth to the baby when we're not married? me as an absent father during registration. will the baby or my girlfriend be deported or some sort of immigration issues?

4. any recommendations?

hoping for a response thanks in advance

Even if you aren't with her when the baby is born or your not married, she can still give the baby your last name. And there's no way your girlfriend would be deported because she had a baby out of wedlock, so don't worry about that.

i don't think Canada has these rules; don't compare it with ur home country; follow sunshine's advice; she will sign the registration, put u as the baby father, and give the baby ur name; i don't think anyone will ask her relation with the baby's father; as far as i know in canada u can put the baby's father as "unknown" too; maybe she will need a notarized letter from u and some id documents, not sure, she can check, i'm sure there is a number to call and online info

she can have the baby in canada with no problems, noone will say or ask anything and for sure it will not affect her pr status; just make sure she is covered by the health care system, otherwise it will b very costly

the only thing to note is that if her as a PR has the baby outside Canada then the baby is not Canadian citizen nor PR and she will need to sponsor him to b able to bring him in Canada; so her travelling outside Canada while being pregnant is not really recommended

I have had a baby in Canada and I can tell you for sure that they do not do a paternity test or require any special registration. When the child is born they will put its first records under the mom's name. They will give her a bunch of forms at the hospital to get the childs birth certificate and register with revenue canada and thats it. When she fills out the birth certificate info she simply puts your name on it :)

The only time a paternity test would be done is in a custody situation and the father is denying his paternity.

Missmini makes a good point to make sure she has medical coverage, birth can cost alot of money without insurance, especially if there is any complications. There was an Australian couple in BC that ended up in a terrible situation owing money because of giving birth without insurance. there bill was for a Million !! here is an article:

yeah you need to sign the birth certificate form because you're not married but she can mail it to you and you sign it and send it back to her,she have one month to register your baby..when I gave birth before I'm not married yet and my daughter used my husband's surname

hope that there will be no sign needed. if my sign is really required then we need to get married first. the only problem if she will be allowed to travel before her third term. i'll ask her to get a certificate to her obgyne just in case.

from what i gather from previous posts, u need to sign but for canada u can sign without being married and without being present (she can send u the forms by mail, u sign and send them back)
also even if her doctor say it's ok to travel it's probably a looong way and a risk since she needs to travel back to canada too (from the reasons i explained before)

in that case then we can just postpone our marriage. actually we wanted to get married before she give birth to lessen the problem and she can sponsor me sooner for me to help take care and provide there for our baby.

if u lived together for 1 continuous year she can sponsor u as common-law no need to get married (but of course u need to prove that); but i have a feeling that u didn't

u can also try to apply for visit visa close to her due date; maybe they will consider ur special situation and let u b together when ur baby is born :)
