Need advice on SOWP extension and implied status while transitioning to PGWP

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on an SOWP extension while my husband is a student. His study permit and my work permit both expired on November 30, but we applied for a 1-month extension on September 27, of his study permit and my work permit. As a result, I have implied status and can work until March 2025.

However, his study will finish on December 14, and we haven’t received a decision on the study permit extension. We’re planning to withdraw the current extension application and immediately apply for his PGWP and my work permit extension.

Here are my concerns:

  1. Since my husband won’t be able to work after December 14 without applying for PGWP, can I continue working on implied status while we withdraw and reapply the same day?
  2. Should I inform my employer about this situation, or can I keep working without interruptions.
For context, he’s currently on a T4 part-time job, and I’m working full-time on a T5 job.

Withdrawal of current extension application will leave both of you without status in Canada. The next application you make, will require you to also apply for restoration and neither of you can work while waiting.

To be able to work after applying for PGWP, the application has to be made while having a valid status(non-expired study permit in this case).

If all you have is T5 income, you probably don't even need a WP.
