I WANT TO PURSUE A PG DIPLOMA IN CANADA FOR THIS SEPT INTAKE.I HAVE SELECTED THE COURSE AND THE COLLEGE. BUT ON THE COLLEGE WEBSITE IT SAYS THE COURSE IS OF 2 SEMESTER AND DOESN NOT CLARIFY WHETHER ITS A 8 MONTHS OR 1 12 MONTHS.
I ASSUME THAT THE 2 SEMESTER COURSE MUST BE OF 8 MONTHS. MY DOUBT IS HOW LONG I WILL GET THE STUDENT VISA IF MY COURSE ENDS IN 8 MONTHS?
MY AGENT SAID I WILL GET THE VISA FOR A 12 MONTHS AND 1 YEAR PGWP.
IF GET A STUDENT VISA WHICH IS VALID FOR 1 YEARS, HOW LONG MY PGWP WILL BE VALID.
DO THEY CALCULATE THE MONTHS OF STUDENT VISA ISSUED OR THEY WILL GIVE THE PGWP VISA FOR 8 MONTHS AS MY COURSE FINISHED IN 8 MONTHS.

EXPERTS PLEASE GIVE YOUR OPINION
THANKS

Hi,

In Canada:

1 academic year= minimum 2 semesters/terms of full time study= atleast 8 months of actual study (4 months=1 study term)= can be of 12 months (2 sem+1 sem co-op/internship)
2 academic year= minimum 4 semesters/terms of full time study = atleast 16 months of actual study(or study+co-op term) = can be of 20 months duration if taken 1 sem/4 months break (summer term) between year 1 and 2 or can be even of actual 24 months duration, if has 2 semesters of co-op term.

Also, usually... 1 Semester/term has atleast 28-30 credits/credit load. So, two such semesters of min. 56 to 60 credits= 1 academic year.

So, in MOST cases, 2 semester of full time study= 1 academic year... and hence eligible for a 1 year PGWP. And... as long as the recognized full time course has atleast 4 full time semesters/terms, including co-op term(s)... ( @ 4 months=1 sem/term, min. actual study of 16 months), you will be eligible for a 3 year PGWP.

Hope it's clear.
