Native Canadian citizenship?? (aboriginal??)

I am a US citizen. I am adopted, and recently got in touch with my birth mother. She said I am Blackfoot indian from Canada. Will this grant me the opportunity to become a Canadian citizen? How do I prove that I am (or not) Blackfoot indian?

You would require a birth certificate to show that you were born in Canada. It is quite possible that the adoption sealed the record. You can't claim citizenship through descent as the adoption severed the tie with your birth parents.

There is a open treaty for natives to live and work in both us and canada, however it does require some paperwork. You will need a status card (verifying your native status) before you can begin the process. Once you have this its quite simple. You need to contact Indian Affairs in Canada, that is the government organization that handles these matters.

Not quite right. You are probably thinking about the Jay Treaty. This allows Canadian natives to freely enter, reside and work in the US. It doesn't allow US natives to freely enter Canada, as Canada didn't implement the legislation for the Jay Treaty. Note that US natives registered to a Canadian Indian Band under the Indian Act, can cross into Canada.
