Hi

Nowhere in the guide or immigrant document checklist does it ask for a national identity document.

7. IDENTITY AND CIVIL STATUS DOCUMENTS

Provide birth certificates, baptismal certificates or other official document confirming relationship (including all pages of Household Registries, if applicable) for you and each of your family members. If you are married, you must include a marriage certificate. If you are now divorced, you must include final divorce certificates; if separated, a separation certificate. If your former spouse or common-law partner is deceased, you must include your spouse’s or partner’s death certificate. Photocopy of Citizenship Certificate or Immigrant Visa for any family members who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
If you are in a common-law or conjugal relationship, provide proof of that relationship.
If you provide other identity and civil status documents, please specify.

Does a national ID need to be provided if country of citizenship issues one? Or is a birth certificate and marriage certificate good enough if there are no children and just sponsored spouse included in the application?

Thanks.

Hello,

If it does not ask for it on the immigration guide or checklist I do not think it is necessary to send. But if it were to give you a peace of mind it would not hurt to send a copy but is not necessary. If they want a copy they will request it. Hope that helps!

I did not attach national ID with my app.
I sent a photocopy of my passport and that was enough for VO.
