Hi everyone,
Here's my dilemma, I am hoping someone can give me some advice.
So I am Canadian, about to get married to my American sweetie. We are preparing our application for her to come to Canada, which we'll submit soon after we get married. I am leaning strongly towards changing my name and taking her last name (we are a same-sex couple).
I'm just not sure how to do this in terms of all the forms, though. Do I:
a) change my name on the paper at our wedding, but then just wait to change it everywhere else for a while, and submit our paperwork to CIC with my maiden name intact?
b) change my name on the paper at our wedding, then change it with the Canadian government, and submit our paperwork reflecting my new name?
c) change my name on the paper at our wedding, and just submit our paperwork with that new name, and assume that CIC is smart enough to handle it even if I haven't changed it officially with the government yet?
Does anyone know? Does it even matter, or would all of those options work? Option A feels the least stressful right now, in terms of not having to change anything yet. But then I might be trying to legally change it while our paperwork is in process and I'm not sure if that would complicate things?
Has anyone dealt with this? I don't find the "search" function on this forum terribly functional, unfortunately, though I did try.
Thanks.
