Happy New Year everybody! I hope this new year brings a lot more successful immigration applications.
I am an Indian applying for citizenship and I have an issue with my name. I was hoping anybody here can provide some advice or anecdotes about their own similar situation.
My name from when I applied for PR has my full first name with the common "ben" suffix, my father's name as my middle name, and my last name. In addition to my PR card, this is also on my health card and driver's license.
I would like my name to be standardized to just the short version of my first name (without "ben") and last name. I have my name listed like this with banks and utilities.
If this is too much, I would like to keep the first and last name the same, but just drop the middle name. I receive federal government documents with my name listed like this. I think it's Revenue Canada, but it could be other departments as well.
When I was working on the Citizenship application I first came across an older version that had a section asking how you would like your name on the Citizenship Certificate. I didn't see this section in the current version so I basically just wrote a separate letter similar to what I wrote above, asking if they can modify my name.
My application was returned back for unrelated reasons (photo) and was addressed to me by my full (with middle) name. I don't know if this is because they just ignored my request, or it's because they didn't really start processing my application.
I'm looking for advice on how I should proceed before sending it back. Is there a decent chance they could accommodate my request? If not, is there a decent chance they would let me know? Or is it likely they would just ignore it and process the application?
Since I have my name listed how I would like in some places, could I provide copies of documents from there and get a Notary Public to certify that this is me?
Or is this all just wishful thinking and I would have to go through the full legal name-change process? I am really hoping to avoid this but I am also hoping to avoid having the Citizenship Certificate with my name listed how I don't want.
Sorry for the long post. I would really appreciate help with this. Thank you in advance.
