hi guys,

i live in quebec. i am not a PR currently but my husband is a Canadian. We plan to buy a house together. We have more than 35% downpayment.

My question is that if we buy house together before me getting my PR, is there any disadvantages for me? Will it be possible that both my name and his name are legally showing on the property paper?

What disadvantage? Many non PR and non Canadians buys Canadian properties and put their names with the land registry as legal owners. Besides, even "students" can buy a 31 million dollar home in Vancouver with mortgage!

Hi breeze123 I'm Realtor in Ontario and only speak of Ontario.
Here you can own the property as joint tenancy or tenancy in common.
As tenants in common you can own a percentage of the property according to your downpayment if that if what you want.
husband 30% you 70% that only will apply to divide your part when selling.
On the title both names appear no difference is made.
Don't forget in most cases in order to have your name on the title you must be able to pay the mortgage.
Please check with your lawyer in Quebec as they are different as a whole than the rest of Canada.
