Hello everyone,

We are planning to apply for Canadian PR through my wife. We have a peculiar issue due to her name neing legally changed after marriage - documents such as Passport / PAN Card, etc have been issued the new post-marriage name.

However, her education documents - the University marksheets and Degree Certificate - have the old pre-marriage name.

There is no similarity being the 2 names but we have all possible documentation that can tie both names - such as Gazette Notification (original gazette publication), Marriage Certificate, Old and New passports with same picture, Old and New PAN cards, etc.

My question is that WES insisits on issuing the ECA on the name on educational documents only - which means the old pre-marriage name.

How do we tie this name discrepancy with the EE profile that we'll create which will be in the name post-marriage name?

Any help / links / pointers in regards to how this has been resolved in the past, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

PS - Both the first name and last name have been changed after marriage. For example, initials BT have changed to initials TC.

Since you have all the gazette documents , this won't be an issue at all. Upload alll this in your personal history along with a loe personally explaining the change in clear simple words. If they have any more questions they will ask you

Thanks so much for your response. I didn't understand the term or acronym "loe". Would appreciate if you could explain / elaborate.

LOE is a letter of explaination. There is no specific cic requirement on this. However most applicants add a self attested letter when they want to explain certain things to the cic for easier processing of their applications. Like is someone took a gap between jobs, they upload an loe explaining what they were doing in that gap (maternity, studying, personal etc. etc. ) similarly if someone has trouble getting official work reference letters, then they add a loe saying they are submitting a letter from a colleague instead of office cause their HR refused to give them one

Basically explain in advance any irregularities in their profile instead of cic raising suspicions and rejecting the case. There is no fixed format for loe. Just write like you would to a boss asking for leave or something

Thanks a lot. So, along with the LOE, I could upload the following:

1) Copy of Old passport with old name
2) Copy of New passport with new name
3) Copy of Gazette Notification of Name change consisting of Old and New names
4) A Legal / Notarized / Affidavit on a Stamp paper
5) Marriage Certificate with Old Name

and of course,

6) An LOE

Is there any other you deem could be worthwhile to add?
