Name Change in 2004 - CIC request for another PCC

My PR application under PNP received the first roadblock.... Sad

Today morning I received an email from CIC requesting a PCC for India under my previous name. I had submitted the PCC for India with my application under my current name.

In 2004 I did a name change actually its not even a name change, just changed the spelling of my name and followed the legal procedure for the name change (sworn affidavit and newspaper advertisements).

In my PR application I disclosed all this information and also submitted the photocopies in support of my name change. I have 60 days time to submit the requested PCC. Right now I don't know if this is even possible.

I will appreciate any insights/advice here.

I will try - I have seen this before, but it may not entirely apply to you.

Part of criminality checks - ensuring that there are no crimes/criminal records attributed under the previous name. What you have presented is proof of the name change and why it was done and have presented a PCC with the the new name.

What CIC is looking is official confirmation from the authorities there are no criminal records attributed under the previous name. The assumption is that the PCC presented under the new name will only cover the periods starting from when the new name was acquired, not the past periods where the applicant was using the previous name. So to get the complete history, as PCC for the previous name needs to be presented - this covers that past period.

period covered by PCC under previous name + period covered by PCC under new name = complete period for criminality history

As to the deadline, you may correspond with your processing office and request for an extension of the submission deadline - they (CIC) allow that with valid reason/proof that submission of the PCC is not attainable within 60days. It does add to your processing time, but then you have more time to comply to the requirement.

This is also my understanding that CIC wants to make sure that there are is no past criminal records associated with my previous name.

I am hoping that I can get the PCC without having to make the trip as the Consulate Office in Vancouver has a reputation of not responding to email queries.
