Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well.

I had a previous thread explaining my past history of being a minor when my family applied for asylum to Canada. Based upon the opinions of everyone I believe it would be best to mention this past history within the LOE during the eAPR process.

Below is a summary of my past history:

Around December of 2003 when I was 13 years old my family moved from the U.S to Canada and applied for asylum which was later rejected. We returned to the U.S and from here we returned to our home country.

The issue here is that my personal information such as my name is not the same as it was then and I’m afraid during the eAPR process I might get rejected, as I don’t have any documents relating to that period so I would be unable to prove this time period, and am afraid that this might complicate my case.

So now I would like to confirm what documents I might have to provide during the eAPR process relating to the name change. On the following official Page it states the below as the required documents.

Document requirements

  • This documentation is requested if the applicant indicates having used another name (e.g., a maiden name).
  • The applicant must provide information and/or documentation on the use of this other name (e.g., a letter of explanation, legal documents of a name change).
I would like to confirm if an affidavit stating the change in my name is enough for this part of the process? As I do not have any official government ID with my previous name on it as I was a minor at the time. I might be able to locate a birth certificate but the issue here is that this may cause further complications as my parents name is different from the one listed on my current certificate as they also changed their names once we returned back to our country from Canada. But I also assume my parent’s information should not be of too much concern as I’m planning on immigrating alone.

I would appreciate any support regarding my query as my life goal has been to immigrate to Canada and now that I'm so close I keep running into concerns.

Thank you in advance.
