I was working on a PGWP. When it was set to expire my employer offered me new contract and I applied for / received a 1 year NAFTA permit (NOC 5241). My employer was randomly audited and Service Canada found some discrepancies, and while a case for those was made, my employer is anticipating a suspension from hiring foreign workers. Additionally, my boss is steppin down and a replacement is being sought, so she doesn't really want to spend time trying to extend the contract and most likely there isn't enough work for me in this transition anyway. We've determined that I'll just work out the remaining time on my work permit since Service Canada has not issued a judgement.
I'm in the process f looking for new work in my NOC, however my work permit expires in 2 weeks. Not promising outlook on having a new job by then and a new work permit applied for. My question is, if my contract and work permit was ended, would I be eligible for EI while waiting for a new permit if I had a new job offer?
