My Wife's Current Address

Hello all,

I'm a Canadian Citizen sponsoring my Japanese wife. We met 2.5 years ago when she came to Toronto on a working holiday visa. When her work visa (and ensuing extended visitor's visa) expired, she returned to Japan to work for a year and we maintained a long-distance relationship. I visited her once. A month ago, she came back to Toronto on a visitor's visa, and a few days ago we got married. We're now preparing our an outland application, and she'll continue to live with me while it's being processed.

My primary question is: on the forms, where she has to fill in her address (and mailing address, if different), should she use my address, as she's staying with me for the duration of the application? Or should she use her Japan address, and my address as her mailing address?

My other question
: For my forms, where required, I put both my English name and Chinese name. For the immigrant's forms, is it okay if she just enters my English name?

Thank you so much. This forum is amazingly helpful.

Oh, and a follow-up to the address question, for my Sponsor Questionnaire IMM5540, question #12:

Are you living with someone?

Should I list my wife there? She'll be living with me for at least 6 months, but she only has a visitor's visa right now.

Thanks again!

She can't put your address down for her residential address unless she has permision to be in Canada for atleast 1 year. Put down her address in Japan for the residential address and use your mailing address so that everything gets sent to you. Only your wife needs to write her name in chinese / jap where the form asks for it. Yes I believe you should put her down as living with you, this also helps prove your relationship is genuine

I don't think it will be a problem. Every time I call CIC with questions and explain my situation, they've said it's okay. I believe when the process is done, you'll have to send your passport to the processing office, whichever country it's in. I'm not sure if they'll send it back to Canada. You might have to have it sent to your family in your country of residence and then have them mail it to you back in Canada, so that you can land.

Our process is going okay, I suppose. We've just had a lot of questions with the forms, but we haven't mailed it in yet. We should be done in a week or so.

Good luck!
