my wife is a canadian citizen, im an american citizen i have a few questions

i know that my wife can sponsor me, however my question is once we apply how long until im able to work. do i have to wait until the entire process is over or can i begin work prior to the application being completed ?

1. Unless you can find an employer that is will to hire you and get a LMIA (8-12 weeks) and demonstrate that there are no Canadians/PR available for the job, then you will have to wait until you receive your PR status

Since you are American you may be eligible for a NAFTA/TN visa, depending on your education and profession. These visas are very simple to get. I worked in Canada on a TN visa while I waited for my PR to be approved.
