Hello. I have a question. My student permit will expire now in January 30, 2015, but I am processing my permanent visa (sponsored by my partner) and my OWP. Do you know if I can stay in Canada until the results? If yes, do I need to go to the immigration and ask for a permit? Do you know also if I can renovate my ID card and my health insurance (Alberta Health Service)?

Thanks so much for the help.

Alberta Health does not recognise implied status (which you have as you submited an application for an open work permit). The same with your ID or Drivers License.
If you are not wirking, apply to change your status as a visitor, you must submit proof that an application for sponsorhip is in process and you submited the owp application (payment receipts, proof of delivery and an explanation letter will be enough ). If you get a visitor record, you will be able to extend your AHC and ID.

I stayed in Canada as a visitor after my second work permit expired. I could not extend my Alberta Health Card but my spouse was able to get me covered as his dependent. You just have to call Alberta Health Care and ask them what to do. You either have to be married, living together for 3 years or living together less than 3 years but with a written common-law agreement which you can create yourself (ours was 2 sentences long ;-))
