My Uncle visiting Canada - factors to consider

Experts,
We are Canadian citizen (became one recently) in Toronto. My uncle wants to visit us (he is going to bear travel expenses) & will stay with us for 2 or 3 weeks.
Is it a good idea if I send him some Invitation letter to strengthen his visit visa application?
Is there any standard template that I need to sign?
