Hello,

I have a PGWP in canada and i am working in the same field as my bachelors and study i did here in canada. I got married last month. I would like to apply for a spouse Work Permit since my work permit expires in August this year. My spouse is PR in canada. How can i apply? When trying to apply online and answering the questionnaire it drags me to a visitor visa application. I need to go out of country in November. I do not have my marriage certificate yet. Should i directly apply for permanent residency since that will also give me right to work, stay and continue my job in canada. what is my best option?

Your spouse must sponsor you for PR first. Once you have AOR which takes 2-3 months, you can then apply for an open work permit.

Submitting the sponsorship application does not give you the right to stay and work on Canada. Only the OWP application does that. So you are short on time and should submit the sponsorship application ASAP.

You can't submit the PR application without a marriage certificate. So you will need to wait until you receive that. What you do next (e.g. whether you apply inland or outland) will depend on how long you plan to leave Canada in November.

Is there a way we can get our marriage certificate sooner? It's been more than 4 weeks since we applied for it.

Hi,
I got my marriage certificate this weekend.
Do I need to wait for police clearance certificate in order to submit my file or can i also use reference number to initiate the process, since i am short on time.
