my son's passport

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I just need some sound advise on how to proceed because my husband wants his sponsorship and my PR visa application to be forwarded to Canada immigration ASAP. My dilemma is in the part of the application forms that i will have to accomplish. There is a box that is asking for my son's passport number, but my son has no passport yet and as i was trying to complete the requirements for him to apply for a passport, I found out that my name in his birth certificate is not correct. So I need to have it corrected which will take time before I could proceed to get his passport.....my husband is telling me that we can't apply for my PR visa without my son's passport number because he said it's a new immigration law of Canada that took effect last month. For anyone who had encountered the same problem, I'm really needing to know how the problem got resolved. Suggestions how to proceed will be much appreciated.

Is this a spousal sponsorship and is your son a Canadian citizen? If that's the case, then your son's passport number is not required.

No. My husband is canadian, me and my son are filipinos. Can't we proceed without my son's passport number?

If your son is accompanying you, then his passport is required.

But -- given the long processing times -- could they submit the PR application now, explain in a cover letter that the passport number is missing (giving reasons), and promise to forward it to the embassy asap?

Yes, they could. I actually meant to write that yesterday but my phone was ringing! The only danger would be if CPC-M decided to bounce it as incomplete. But this could be avoided by writing a cover letter explaining themselves.
