Hello Everyone,
Greetings from this end. my sister applied for study permit with her 13 years old daughter, but when study permit was granted, her daughter was not included. When she contacted IRCC, they said she should apply for eTA as they are currently resident in Europe.

Which account is she going to use to apply for the eTA , can she use her IRCC account to apply for the eTA? or she has to create a complete new account?

Is there any other way she can apply for the eTA?

Thanks.
Luckywoman.

Her daughter will need study permit to go to school in Canada. She can apply for eTA to enter/travel to Canada as a visitor.
Study permit/work permit for dependents are not guaranteed for study permit approval.

Her citizenship is what matters not where she currently lives or has residency. As already indicated the child needs to apply for her own study permit. You don’t have to provide an admission letter from the school just indicate they will be attending school in local catchment area. As previously noted approval is not guaranteed. She will have to prove that she has the extra funds to support a child without working. Chances of success is higher for those attending PhD or masters programs.

She needs a study permit not just an ETA. Both IRCC agents and many schools are now requiring this to attend school as a child of a temporary resident. She needs to apply for a study permit and should do so asap if she wants to attend school in the fall. Would add family members of international students are no guaranteed the ability to stay in Canada anymore except masters/PhD students. Another reason to apply for a study permit.

ETA doesn’t guarantee approval or entry to Canada since she is clearly not a visitor. Best to get the study permit first before coming to Canada so if denied the family can make a decision if they still want to come to Canada. We have not seen the outcomes of the new international student policies and how strict IRCC will be about children accompanying.

She is a European citizen and can enter Canada with an eTA. She also has the funds for her to study.
Thanks for your reply.

So has the study permit application for the child been submitted? People are just telling you it should be done ASAP because processing is around 14 weeks so may not get it in time to begin school. Nothing to do with ETA or funds.

She still will need a study permit from Europe even if paying as an international student from Europe. Spouses of international students are no longer able to accompany international students unless studying for a masters and PhD but we have yet to see whether children will be able to get study permits & accompany. Many schools now require proof of a study permit to attend elementary or high school.
