no you cant, because a passport could not be extended till it has 6 months validity. so apply your visa, reach Canada, and when 6 months are remaining apply in the pakistani embassy in ottawa they will renew your passport and then you will have to apply for the extension in visa ................ while being in canada.........sherykhann said:

sherrykhann. where are you from? I recently got a new passport for the purpose of the applying for a canadian study permit. My visa was set to expire september 2014 and my study program is for 2 years. Initially, I thought that I couldn't get a new passport with an old passport whose validity period remained at more than year. It is worth a shot to find out from your local immigration embassy because you will save on the time and MONEY of having to get both your passport and study permit renewded while in Canada!
