Here's my story: U.S citizen. Entered the country 3 years ago as a visitor. Originally planned to stay a few months to visit with my long distance boyfriend. Things changed and we just started really enjoying each others company. We just sort of kept renewing visas out of ignorance of the process + laziness. Once we got a grasp everything, we realized there were a few mistakes that look bad on the documents filled out (Biggest being, the Original entry reason looks a bit sketchy since i stated i just wanted to visit for tourism). Again, ignorance of everything makes what i said look bad.
Anyhow, visa was expiring in feb and we rushed to send off a spousal sponsorship app+visitors extension off on Jan. Visa extension rejected with "Original entry reason" and "likelihood to leave" was bolded. (Additional bad news, PR application was returned and re-sent off this week due to mistake. So that re-sets 1 and a half month of waiting)
I'm beginning to understand just how important and sensitive these things are now. My hopes are next to zero that my status will be restored. Normally, i'd high tail it out of the country once that happens. But I've been given the advice that *over staying* can and does work? Leaving the country would be extremely taxing on our savings. In fact, we're not reasonably confident we can afford to rent a place for me in the USA for a full year. Losing the funds from the inland application and re-applying with out-land is just something we want to avoid.
My biggest fears are: Agents sent to my home and being deported. Getting some kind of phone call and made to attend some kind of questioning (Does that happen?). Or my overstaying negatively impacting my chances with my current inland application or outland application, should the worst happen.
