Hi! I've been here in Sask since March 2012, and I am quite happy with how the Canadian Government works for its residents, including us as well. Although there's 5% GST/5% Provincial Sales Tax for Sask, I know that the taxes I am paying them are worth it. GST/HST/PST credits given quarterly here in SASK is quite good especially for those receiving a meager income, but good enough compared to what we get back home (I used to be an IT Unit Head in the Phils and a Cashier/Clerk now here in Canada). My hubby received 259CAD each quarter (including the share of Sask government - the Sask Low Income Credit), good enough for a refund of GST that you paid for. By the way, some groceries which are basic for a living are non-taxable, some do have (I know because I am working in a store)..But the rest are taxable. For salary taxes and deductions, I also think it's just but fair because we do get a refund of it annually depending on family income, 3,000CAD of tax return isn't bad. Also, in my case where I have a 6 year old son, as a female parent I am receiving child benefits like what PR/citizens get, as my hubby has worked for at least 18 months here although he's just a temporary foreign worker. CCTB of almost 220CAD (in our case) a month and UCCB of 100CAD (6 years old and below) are of big help. Notwithstanding the fact that education is free up to Grade 12.
Yet, each of us has a different case. If you intend of settling down in Canada, consider the province and fully assess your situation, of course financially back home and the wages and benefits you'd be getting here. Emotional problem strikes me as I really feel sad to be apart from parents. Yet, I just recall of my vision of getting them in the near future... I agree with Cherry, don't be in a rush... Enjoy your stay in the home country with your loved ones while waiting for your precious visa
God bless, everyone!
