My next door neighbour was deported

My sweet, next door neighbour (a nice Scottish guy with sky blue eyes and blond curls) was deported.
Three cars with eight armed officers came in the afternoon and arrested him. He was in Canada for three years, residing with his girlfriend.
He was unable to take anything with him. His girlfriend had to take some of his stuff to the detention center, before his deportation.
I am in shock!!! I thought that no one gets deported in this country. So many immigrants abusing the system, and here is Paul – who did not ask for one cent from anyone.

The girlfriend should have sponsored him. All that time and not a move to make his stay legal? Sad But it's the law. There would have been initial correspondences before the actual deportation.

Right, Paul was a bad boy. He was visa exempt, he knew he was allowed to stay for 6 months and he decided he wanted to stay longer and no, he didn't apply to extend his visitor status like he should have, he just ignored the rules and stayed on. So maybe that is not a big crime or anything but he still broke the rules.

His girlfriend could have applied to sponsor him and she still can although I guess now that he is getting deported, he might be banned from Canada for a couple of years which would make that a bit harder. I do not know why people purposely complicate their lives like this.

He may be "a nice guy", but people do not get deported for no reason.
I agree that it is not fair or reasonable that others who abuse the system are still here in Canada.

FWIW most new immigrants want illegal immigrants, and those who cheat or abuse the system to be deported or kept out in the first place.
For those who follow the rules, there are benefits and opportunities.
