does anyone know how to apply for dual citizenship if born prior to 1977
This probably applies to you - see whether it does by implication:

"a person who ceased to be citizen as a minor (under 21years of age) between January 1, 1947 and February 14, 1977 when their responsible Canadian parent took up citizenship in another country or renounced Canadian citizenship, and wishes to resume under subsection 11(1.1) of the Citizenship Act. "

Please find below the CIC link with information on the steps that you should take. When reading the extensive information, please NOTE that "[the] permanent resident and residence requirements do not apply to you if you lost your citizenship as a minor and you are applying to resume citizenship under subsection 11(1.1) of the [Citizenship Act]."

A portion of the information will not apply to you, but it is strongly advised that you read all of the information in order to glean and highlight which sections pertain to your situation. Also, in case you wonder about section 9, it might not apply to you, and if it does, you can always consult a Canadian Consular office within the U.S. for additional information.

Here is the "How To" informational text with 16 Sections: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0301E3.asp

Here is the link to the application's content guide: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0301ETOC.asp

See what Section 9 is all about on the application form: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/citizen/CIT0301E.pdf

You can always start from: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/resume.asp

Or, from http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/resume-eligibility.asp

You are most likely covered by the new Bill C-37 which restores lost citizenship to many and gives it to people with Canadian parents born abroad. (I am also in your group)

We have created a forum for all people who are affected by this bill. Please join us at:

You may see more on the law and a list of who WILL and who WILL NOT become a Canadian under the law at
