Hello
I became a Permanent Resident on the last weekend of May. A little data and time line:
Category: CEC
Visa office: CPC Ottawa
App. Received: September 8th 2014
AOR received: January 21th, 2015
Passport sent: May 10th, 2016
Visa issued: May 12th, 2016
Passport received: May 26th, 2016
Landing experience:
I took the drive to Niagara Falls on a Sunday, it was sunny and hot.
That day I found parking somewhere on Victoria Street for about $10-15 the entire day, maybe there are cheaper but I didn’t see them around.
Walked over to the bridge entrance; there I saw a small line up to go thru.
One has to pay $0.50 for crossing the bridge; lots of people cross back and forth by foot the almost 300 m length of bridge.
At the U.S side I presented my passport, and the officer gave a sheet with my name on it to take to the Canadian side. I was not asked for visitor visa.
I walked back to the Canadian side, with a few photos of the falls in between, there I told them I came to do my landing, and they directed me to the building to the right of the booth.
There I gave my passport and CoPR; I was sent to the waiting are.
At the waiting area, there were around 30-40 people waiting, some were moving quick, except people that needed criminal record checked, it seemed that a large portion of the people there that was waiting to get their record checked.
That led to a 5 hour wait. I recommend going with somebody that can go out to get food and water if needed.
There is washroom just outside.
At some point during the wait my name was called, an officer asked me 2 questions about criminal record and then confirmed my address; made me sign the CoPR, told me that now that I was Permanent resident
I had to stay in Canada 3 out 5 years to maintain the status and PR card would come in the mail in 8 weeks.
I rushed out the building to finally get fresh air as Permanent resident of Canada.
