Hello,

My kid is a PR and won't meet the 2years RO, his PR card will expire soon next year in March 2025.
He lives outside of Canada most of the time with his mother except every summer he comes to Canada for about 7 weeks.
He will come to Canada this summer for about 6 weeks as his PR card is still valid.
Can anyone please let me know is there a way to renew my kid's PR card? I am a PR and will renew my PR card recently in April or May.
Can I wait until my kid come to Canada in summer and renew our PR cards together just in case of a good luck?

Thank you very much!

March 2026? Is your child ever going to move to Canada full-time? How old are they?

Thanks for the reply!
My kid and my wife came here to Canada in 2016 and left in 2020. My kid only came back last summer for 7 weeks, and will come here this summer again. But will not fulfil the RO for renewal.
He is 10 years old now. I want him come here every summer and probably study here before his 15. And I divorced last year.

He needs to meet his own RO. He is really visiting you at this point and has no intention of meeting RO in the near future so not sure it would be worth pursuing PR card renewal based on H&C. Would consult an immigration lawyer but he is likely better off renouncing PR and applying for a TRV to visit you for a few weeks during the summer every year based on what I assume is a custody agreement. You could sponsor him again when he plans on making a permanent move to Canada and will be able to be compliant with his RO.

Thank you very much, canuck78!
For some reason, I couldn't reply to your last message.
In addition, do you mean that I can still try to pursuing PR card renewal based on H&C for my kid?

Yes but it is a long process and given your child would not remain in Canada during the process and has no plans to remain compliant for quite some time so it is tough to say what the outcome will be. Also won’t solve the issue of non-compliance everytime he enters Canada since RO is a rolling total.
