so i have been staying at home since I landed here which has been 7 months,i finally got a job offer from a music studio since i was a piano teacher in my hometown, basically i can only make a living or not even a living.and i have some questions, please help.

they sent me a contract with 18 pages, which really scare me off,i never read an employment contract this long,I also worked for the government in my hometown ,the contract was like 2 pages thats it.is it usual ?

"In the interest of privacy, safety, security and protection of the Corporation, its clients, Contractors, staff members and confidential information, the Corporation requires the Contractor, at its own expense, to obtain an official Criminal Record check, up to and including the date of commencement of the service. Such documentation should be provided to the Corporation at the time of signing of this Agreement. The Corporation may, at its own cost, request updates to the above."

that means I need to go for a criminal check?since Im now living in calgary,so i need to go for it at the police office right?is it usual to have a background check for employments in canada?since my hubby said he worked for several companies and now he's working in a big company but they never ask for a criminal check.

"The Contractor will be paid a non teaching fee of $10.00 per hour for the following services: any meeting lasting longer than 15 minutes, open house, picture day, competition rehearsal, costume sorting, etc. The contractor will be paid up to 2 hours maximum for completing recommendation forms."

from the government website, the minimum wage is now $10.2 and it will be increased to $15 since oct 2015,does it mean I have to talk to the employer about this?btw they describe me as a "contractor" that means I'm not "employed" by them,I dun really know if I need to get some business license or something else since Im "self employed",I dun really know what to do now, please help. And it didn't mention anything about if I will still get paid if my student is absent, since it said on the hiring website saying i will still get paid,so does it mean i will get $10 or the hourly wage from you guys understanding?

I posted it here because it will be my first job and I dun wanna be an annoying person to the employer ,I am scare to ask or negoinate since we haven't sign it yet or they will change their mind. And i got my offer by email on june 2,after a few emails i have been asking for if the contract is ready, they finally throw me the contract by email on june 25,so please help me.

You know Im very upset since I have declined another job offer, and now it's too late to find another job in this field or I have to wait till next year since I have just discovered studios here will be "close" for regular music lessons during summer,it follows school calendar, that why my contract period is sept to june 30 next year.

thank you for ur help.have a nice day
