Hello people, strap yourself in for a boring ride...

I am currently getting my application forms together to sponsor my Thai wife, and also bring our son over through the Proof of Citizenship application. Now, I have been employed in the hotel industry for over a year as a front desk attendant. In March, I was promoted to a position at another one of the owners properties as a Live-In manager, the wage is not great considering I am the only employee to tend the desk. I feel this is the position I should keep through our sponsorship since, it's solid employment (which is a first, looking back at my 5 year employment history), plus the perks are, a 100% expense free manager suite, and the promise of having a job for my wife once she arrives. Now a friend of mine, who has strong ties to the Japanese community in our city, has known many people who have been sponsored and has a fair opinion on the matter. He feels, that the current job I am in will not win over any votes in Immigration, and that I should opt out and get myself into an apprenticeship, in which they will see that I am in school, but will also be working, so it will look like I have alot of advancement in the field, opposed to being in a dead end job, which I am arguably in at the moment. In the end of the day, I realize quality of life and everything will definitley be better if I were to work in a trade, since it's more of a passion to me. But at the moment, my main concern is to have my Wife and Son with me.... and whichever is the best route to get them here, I will take... What would your opinions be on the matter? Am I weighing too much credit on my current position?

Thanks to All In Advance!!!

Seeing as there is no income requirement and they do not care what your doing for a living all they request is you have a job.To show support for when she comes. So if you want to keep your current job and do night school that is up to you.If you want to keep this job until arrives and then pursue another that is up to you.Maybe when she arrives the manager of the properties and you can talk and maybe your wife can take over your position as you advance yourself.
Stick it out soon she will be here and then the two of you can decide wahts better for you.And as for immigration they dont care if your a police, mechanic, garbage collector or what as long as you have a job. They just dont want you recieving assisstance while you are applying. So do what is best for you.

Your job doesn't matter. It's good you have one, though. BUT - the really good thing about your current job is that they will give your wife a job when she comes. Proof of this will look very good in the application. The visa officer wants to see future plans, wants to see that the applicant is willing to work; both things show you have discussed your future with your wife, which is evidence of a genuine marriage.
