I thought I would share my total experience since this forum is so helpful.

My wife and I's work permits expired May 30,2014. I am here on Noc 1113,.Securities agent/broker and she is on a OWP.
My LMO was being processed in BC so I applied for work permit extensions on May 20 so we would have implied status.
I got my LMO fairly quickly and since I have biz travel and we have a holiday coming up I went right to the border and paid again for a new application. I was worried a bit about the 4 year limit but under my Noc code, it wasnt even questioned. Actually all they took at the border was my LMO copy and my new contract from my firm.

I then called CIC to see what would happen to my wife's application and they said that they would either see in my file I had a new WP and issue hers or they would send a letter for more documentation(my new WP)

Well, looks like I never had to call because we got my wife's new WP today and they processed it 7 days after I got mine so the system picked it up.

So all and all, everything worked very efficiently.

PS- When our WP was expiring I called BC Healthcare and they were super nice and extended our health care for 3 months.....it was pretty simple to do.
