As stated above I gave birth to my child in canada and the child is a citizen of the country, I am in the country on a visitors visa. So what I'd like to know is if me being the parent of a canadian child help me get permanent residency in the country if I want my child to be raised in canada

No, you get no rights or help just because your baby is Canadian. If you could, there would be a lot more people having their babies in Canada.

If you want your child to be raised in Canada, you will either have to find a way to apply for PR yourself, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp or you can give your child to Canadian friends or relatives to raise.

You can wait until 18 years, once the child has a job and provided he qualifies to sponsor you only then you can immigrate here

There are different programs that allow you to immigrate to Canada permanently. See the link below:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp

Apply for PR under any one of the category which is suitable for you or matches your qualifications. Though I believe there is no category either for "giving birth in Canada" or "Mother/parents of a Canadian born child" or any program which will make a "labor on Canadian soil" as the sole criterion to immigrate under PR.
