I have applied for a parents/grandparents super visa and even though they accepted my application and I payed the complete fees , passed medical tests and made the medical insurance for a year , I have received a visa valid for less than 6 months!
5-5-2014 until 26-10-2014

I am wondering why or whether i'll receive an extension once I land?l

Note : my passport doesn't expire until 7 years

Thank you for your help
p.s:any ideas who I can contact once in canada to verify the reason for this?

Guys, no need to panic!

Just remember , EVERYBODY!!!, what you get from VO IS NOT A VISA (any visa) ITSELF. It is a "visa to travel" to Canada. ONLY!!! Those dates only indicate a period of time when a visa holder may arrive to Canada

Any "visa to stay in Canada" is granted (or not) at POE by border officer!

5-5-2014 until 26-10-2014
So, this means that your parents have to arrive at POE in Canada between May 5, 2014 and October 24, 2014. And then at POE a border officer will decide how long they could stay in Canada on "Sponsor Parents Visa"

VO gave them such a period of time because they supposed to be absent in home country for 2 years and they need to arrange whatever they have to leave there. So they have till Oct 24, 2014 to do that. No rushing. :)

@ Regina There is a need to worry. What you get from VO (CHC) is an official document, usually stamped or glued inside a passport, giving permission from a foreign authority for you to enter Canada.
The Validity/Type of the visa indicates how long or how often it can be used to enter Canada (multiple entries).

They applied for a super visa but was given for a period less than 6months. there must be a reason he was given for less than 6months which means if the parents come, allowed to stay for X amount time, leave and need to come back (After the validity of the Visa), they need to apply for a new Entry Visa

so he has a valid reason to be concerned !!!

No it is not. It is an official permission to come to Canada. How long to stay- will decide a border officer at POE.

It is the same as any other visa- you do not get a SP from VO but only "a permission to arrive" and when you arrive at POE in Canada they will decide if grant you your STUDY PERMIT.
You do not get PR status from VO. You are granted it what you come to POE and go through immigration.

And so on.

@ Regina. This is a super Visa, my parents in law applied for one on a new 10yr passport and they were both granted the visa for a validity of 10yrs.

what does this mean? The can enter Canada anytime within the 10year period they can stay for X amount of time (as determined by the Border official) anytime they enter Canada within the same 10year period.

Its not uncommon for them to give 6 mos even after getting Supervisa ( lot of other ppl have experienced it ) - some have corrected officers at that moment, some not - its mostly to do with if officer sees meds done in system or not but not sure

Its not a big deal, after 6 mos, simply apply for 2 year ext mentioning that u have Supervisa, thats how everyone does it

Note: 6 mos is only if indicated on Stamp, but if you have PG-1 and officer only stamped entry date, then its 2 years anyway

In my opinion, the issue is here is not with the fact that an extension cannot be requested .like you rightfully mentioned, something prompted the officer to issue visa with less than 6 months validity and unfortunately, there is no way to contact the VO to make corrections other than go through the usual communication channels for embassy staff which is painful.

The problem now is, if the leave Canada after their stay for 2yrs or whatever the case may be, they will need a new Entry Visa and the whole process will be required and to make matters worse, it is not even guaranteed that they will be issued a new Visa.

Like I mentioned, its most likely to do with medicals - if they see it updated in system , they give 2 years ( not a 100% fact but some users have experienced that ) when they asked the officer

Superivsa is a 10 year multiple visa, they can simply re-enter and by all means be more diligent in requesting 2 years since they have PG-1 quoting what happened last time

In addition, some folks have got 1 year ext after the 2 year stay as well - not an issue

Thank you all for your reply!

And yes the category stated PG1, But under ut number of enteries said one. Even though I asked for multiple.

I am not planning to stay more then the 6 months this visit...but I definitely plan to come again....will I have to apply fora new visa all over again?
Also when am at the airport.....should I stand in the visitors line or immigrant?
Or is there a special line for parents?

Thank you all!!!

There is one general line for PR/Citizens and 1 for all visitors ( super visa is visitor ). You can request wheelchair access from home country and things run pretty smooth evrywhere
