Multiple entry to canada while residing in the country on visitor visa.

Hello all,
Does anyone know how to obtain multiple entry while staying in canada as a visitor. my visitor visa expiring next month. I applied for oinp in dec 2015. did not hear anything since then. Could anyone let me know about the procedure to apply for multiple entry. I was told that for multiple entry, i will have to apply from visa office in my home country india, making sure i have a legal status here in canada . Please reflect your knowledge.

The key thing you need to apply is not multi entry TRV, instead it should be a permit type called Visitor Record. With Visitor Record, you can then legally stay in Canada.
