Multiple-entry to canada ... little question

Hi i have a small question

my Girlfreind is chinese and got a multiple entry visa that expires in 2020 (when her passport expires)

she is here since october and she would have to leave before april (6 months)



We are planning a trip to cuba in february

when we will come back in canada can she stay for a other 6 months or she has to leave in april ?

(i wonder when you get out of the country with a multiple entry visa , and you comeback (1 week after) will she be able to stay for 6 month again ? )

When she leaves the country her status will reset.

When she attempts to come back she can be given 6 months, given less than 6 months or be refused entry. This is up to the CBSA officer at the point of entry.

How YOU make him feel about the case. It is up to you to show you are not abusing Immigration laws, that the visit is genuine and that all your documentation is strong.

In practice though, doesn't her status reset when she tries to enter the country again?

Canada has no way of knowing when she leaves the country and therefore can't reset her status at that time.

Of course Canada knows when she left. CBSA officials have access to flight manifests. Just because Canada doesn't have exit controls doesn't mean they don't know when you left.

There is no "in practice" - if you're allowed in and for how long is entirely up to the border official. The only "in practice" bit is that in practice, the more time you spend in Canada vs. outside of Canada the greater the chance you may have problems re-entering Canada.

I didn't know that CBSA uses the flight manifests.

What I meant was that if she does manage to re-enter Canada, her status would then be reset. That's the 'in practice' I meant.

Thanks for the heads-up on staying in Canada longer -> diminishing your chances for re-entering later.

Jalex many of my questions here are posed, not because they pertain to my personal situation, but simply because I am a very curious person.

I can think of many situations where CIC would not be able to tell if you left the country.
