Hi everyone..

Thank you in advance for reading and reply to my post, any help and experience would be much appreciated!

My situation...

I am a resident of Dubai, currently unemployed, in a relationship with a Canadian guy. (Currently fiancee). Since he popped the question we have been thinking of where to get married and how I can go see him in Canada and plan our wedding ceremony there since his leave days from work are limited.

So here are the questions..(I apologize if they were asked before!)

1. What is the best route to go and see him and get married in Ottawa? Should I risk applying for a visitor's visa from the embassy in UAE and or should we just get married in one of the islands or countries that are easy to get hitched in (e.g. mexico, cuba, dominican)?

2. Once we are married, is it easier and faster to lodge an inbound and extend my visitor's visa or should I leave and apply as an outbound applicant?

3. If we apply for an outbound application, will I be able to get a visitor's visa to see my then husband and help plan the ceremony etc as well as see him for a month or two before coming back to Dubai or will they reject my request for a visitor's visa based on my spousal sponsorship application being under process?

I'd all the input I could get on the safest and fastest way to do this without any problems.

Thanks again guys :)

1) You can try, but as you are unemployed, your chances are very low.

2) Once again, you can try. You will need to get your application together before your visitor's visa expires, which may or may not be possible. If you're able to apply before your visitor's visa expires, then no worries. But you should make yourself aware of the pros and cons for Inland versus Outland applications.

3) Chances of approval are also very low.

Hey,

a lot of your answer really depend on where you're from. If you're from the UAE as well as living there then your VO will be Abu Dhabi - which has one of the longest waiting time.

1 - you can get married anywhere you want (Canada, UAE etc.) as long as it's legal in the country where you get married, then it will be legal for CIC. If you can get a visa to Canada, then you can go and get married there. If you get denied (because CIC might think that you won't return to Dubai after your visa expires, as you don't have much link - no job etc. - to get back to, and a future husband will be probably the strongest link), then get married somewhere else, then apply. If you get denied, it won't be an issue for your future PR application as it's a fairly normal thing.

2 - in your case (being from Dubai) inland is probably faster than outland. Inland is listed at 14 months ( but can be longer) for now, and AbuDhabi is listed at 20 months ( + 1 month stage 1). However, inland is only an option IF you can get a visa to Canada in the first place. It also requires some planning, as to be able to stay in Canada for the duration of the process, you have to file your application BEFORE your visa expires. It will give you implied status. It's also possible to do it when being out of status, but comes with extra complication - so best to plan for it, and have all the documents ready (police report, birth certificate etc.) and then apply. If you don't get a visa, then it is only possible to file outland.

3 - Visitors' visa for spouses are usually quite difficult to get, as CIC is afraid that you will not leave the country when the visa expires. If you do decide to apply for a visitor visa, just make sure that you include as many proofs of ties to your own country. You might still get rejected, but it won't affect your application, so it might be worth a try. Depending on what type of proofs you have as ties to Dubai.

Safest and fastest way is: send a complete application, work on getting the paperwork together, document as much as possible your relationship. And be patient! it's a long and frustrating process, and there is no short and easy way to do it. Read the first thread "spousal sponsorship" by Leon, only the first page, it will give you an idea of what to prepare etc.

Good luck,
Sweden

thanks amikety & sweden .. I will read the post from Leon. And just to clarify I'm actually a Sudanese national born and raised here in Dubai, so I will be applying through the visa office in Abu Dhabi. I guess the outland application is the safest bet.

I will go through the post and see if I have any further questions on the outland applications.

Thanks again
