Moving to US for work

Hi everyone,

I applied for citizenship in Jan '18 and it is in process. My wife (my dependent) still needs 8 months to fulfill presence requirement.

I got a job offer in US and will move soon to US. Does my wife needs to stay in Canada until she completes the time or is there another way so she can move with me?

Yes she must remain in the country if she wants to file for citizenship. If she would be happy just being PR she can go with you. Once you have been granted citizenship your time together abroad will could towards her PR RO.

Your wife will not be able to count the days spent outside Canada.

Unless you are working with the:

• Canadian Armed Forces
• federal public administration
• public service of a province or territory
