Hi Everyone,

My Husband and I live in Central America, He is Canadian and is sponsoring me to move to Canada. He has a plane ticket booked already. I received an Email from CIC about 2 weeks ago and haven't received anything back after I linked my application. We are planning on buying my ticket to Canada for the summer. Do you all think if I buy a 1 way ticket I will have trouble at the airport? Should I buy a two way ticket better and be travelling back and forth until my residency gets approved (This is a lot of money though)?

People who have done this, I would really appreciate some advice!

Until you get your confirmation of permanent residence, if you come to Canada, it is as a visitor.

You'll need to convince CBSA that you are visiting (and not moving) right now. Having a one way ticket is not a good idea and will invite scrutiny. You can buy 2 separate one way tickets. For the return ticket, purchase a "refundable" ticket that leaves just under 6 months from your arrival date.

Also, if you are not from a visa-exempt country, you will need to apply for a TRV (temporary resident visa) to visit Canada.
Also, have proof of funds/private health insurance and proof of your Sponsorship application with you at the airport.

A one way ticket is asking for trouble. Like jordo recommended, definitely purchase a return ticket, preferably refundable so you can cancel it if you decide to apply to extend your visit from within Canada or your PR is approved before then.

Or, you can buy a one way ticket to Canada and just before you check in at the airport, buy a return one way ticket. You can cancel it for a full refund (within 24 hours of booking) once you clear immigration (Air Canada).
