I am an Indian national and a H1B worker in the United States. My husband has a closed work permit in Canada. I am applying for the open work permit online. I need to know if I can apply from United States instead of my home country.
I also have a Temporary resident- visitor Visa (less than 6 months). I was also trying to find information on if I would be allowed to apply for an open work permit if I already have a visitor Visa.

Yes - you can apply for an open work permit from the US based on your husband's closed work permit.

No - you do not qualify for an open work permit based on your TRV. You're confusing TRVs with TRPs. TRPs are special permits issued to people who are otherwise inadmissible to Canada - typically due to a crime.

I understand. Thank you!
In the work permit application form.. I have selected the type as open work permit.. but there was no provision on the form to mention my spouse details. I am attaching his documentation and information with my letter of explanation. Would that suffice?

Post your question to the Foreign Workers section of the forum. You'll get the best/most answers there. I don't know the answer.
