Moving to CAN While Still Employed in UK

Hi, hoping for some advice.
I’m looking to move to Canada for at least a year with possibly going for PR after that. My UK employer is happy for me to continue to work for them while I’m in Canada as performing the equivalent role in CAN would require significant retraining which would make getting a job and sponsored visa with a Canadian employer difficult while in the UK.

Would I need a work visa to continue to solely work for my UK employer while living in Canada? Or is there a different kind of permissions I would require to enter and stay in the country (all I currently have is an ETA), or would I need to apply for PR first? I’m seeing conflicting advice online so any guidance would be appreciated!
Also would this scenario make renting a property difficult, as I would have no local employment?
Thanks!

Does your employer do any business in Canada / have any Canadian customers / clients?

At eTA allows you to visit Canada but not live here.

Also, how old are you?

No business in Canada, only in the UK and very occasionally in Europe. I’m 29.

Yup, knew the eTa wasn’t enough but not sure which route is the right one!

At eTA is not going to allow you to move to Canada and live here. The options for moving here while continuing to work for an employer outside of Canada are very limited, really just one. Look into the IEC / working holiday visa. This will give you an open work permit that will allow you to live in Canada for a couple of years and work for any employer. You can continue working for your current employer under this work permit. The one downside I see for you is that you will not qualify for any health care coverage while in Canada since you won't be working for a Canadian employer. You'll need to take out insurance for emergencies and pay for non emergency care out of pocket. Note that only a limited number of IEC visas are issued each year through a lottery.

This is the only viable option I see for you based on what you want to do.
