how do you get a driving record from DMV? do you need to go personally and pay, then they'll mail it to you?

I don't know yet, I'm in Georgia and I think every state is different. when my time comes I'll let you know

I was able to google and find links to dmv and private sites which can provide drivers records. Though I have not one for myself. Like cchabert said, it differs from state to state.

Yes, you can drive in Canada with US license and vice versa. I was able to get a rental car in Toronto using my US license and when I drove from Buffalo to Toronto I had US plates and US driver license. (Both times I was visiting on visitor visa) One thing you might want to do is contact your insurance company and ask them to give you a temporary insurance card which will be valid in Canada. They ask for that type of a document if you are planning on renting. Most of the insurance companies provide it free of cost if it is short duration.

One more thing . Can we buy a new car in loan here in US and move to canada still paying the installments in US ?or do we have to complete the payment before taking car to canada ?

Dear mumbaimerijan,

You will have to take approval from the financing company to take the car to Alberta as the title will have a lien on it and will not be transfered without their permission.
