Hi,

I along with my family came to Canada in June 2016. I immigrated to Nova Scotia as a PNP, took an apartment on rent here, and then i got a job in about 3 months. I have been quiet successful in settling in this province as the people here are very friendly and welcoming.

However at present, my family circumstances have changed and since they all live in Montreal, so i would like to relocate along with my family to Montreal or any other near by city.

My question is after settling and living successfully for almost a year in Nova Scotia as a PR (who came as a PNP), if i get a good job in Montreal or some other near by city, under these circumstances:

1. Can i relocate, and will it put any questions over my PR status?
2. What if i don't get any job for now and i relocate first, and then look for the job?
3. What is the probable legal procedure of relocating between the provinces?

PRs have freedom of movement within Canada, so you can move to any province you want with no concern to your PR status. Provinces have no power to force someone to stay in their province for any amount of time, regardless if PR was obtained through PNP. One only needs to show intent to settle in that province during the application process.

There is no 'legal procedure' for relocation. You are a Permanent Resident of Canada, not of Nova Scotia.

If you attempted to land in Montreal in the first place as a NS PNP recipient, and your entire family lived in Montreal, then you might be refused your PR status by CBSA if they felt you didn't really intend to live in Nova Scotia. However, once you have landed, the force is moral; how are you going to feel about yourself if you get up and run away so soon, and if lots of people do that, is the future of the programme at risk.

You could theoretically be stripped of status later in life if they investigated you (either randomly, or on intelligence), and decided you never intended to live in NS. That is relatively unlikely (similar order of magnitude as winning a lottery jackpot).
