A little different question then usual- as per the Canadian website (quoted below) the car should not have been modified for it to be imported into Canada.
I have an aftermarket trailer hitch installed on my ford edge - would that create a problem in inspection etc?

  • A vehicle modified from its original state will not qualify to be imported into Canada. This also applies to Canadian-owned vehicles modified in the U.S. or Mexico which returning to Canada.
    Examples can include:
    • a van converted to a motorhome
    • a van equipped with raised roof installation and/or modified interior
    • a pick-up or a passenger car equipped with lift kit
    • a motorcycle converted to a motor tricycle (“trike”)
    • a vehicle that has been stretched or lengthened, etc.

A trailer hitch is not a lift kit (the things that boost/lower the suspension of the car). I strongly doubt that a trailer hitch is an issue at all, unless some serious mods to electrical system of car (i.e. not just the light wiring harness).

And if it comes to it, I think most trailer hitches can be removed fairly easily.

Makes sense - thank you for sharing your thoughts.
