Hi!

I am Canadian through my mom.
I married a US veterans and currently living in California. We have 2yrs old daughter.

We are thinking to move back in Canada in 5mos now. My parents siblings and relatives are living in there. I wonder if is works to drive to border as tourist with them and then we will just apply PR for my husband and my daughter inside canada? I’m also confused if my daughter is also canadian citizen or not.

Does anyone try to ship your staffs like clothes and household through air cargo? I wonder how much it will be. We might have 4-5 big boxes. I just dont want to bring our stuffs through border crossing because they might not let us enter.

Please give me advice! Thank you

Hi

Were you born in Canada or are you a naturalized Canadian? If so, your daughter is Canadian. If you were born outside of Canada to your Canadian mother, your daughter is not Canadian and needs to be sponsored.

Your husband (and possibly your daughter) does not have the right to live in Canada and cannot just move here. If he shows up at the border with no US ties and an intent to live in Canada, there is the possibility that he will be refused entry and maybe even issued a one year Exclusion Order.

I strongly suggest you apply outland now. American outland apps are faster than inland apps. And if he shows up at the border with a sponsorship app already in process, CBSA will know that he is following the rules to properly immigrate to Canada and he should have no issues entering as a visitor (provided he only has a few bags like a normal visitor, not all of his worldly possessions).

Outland for Americans, expect 6-8 months. As soon as your daughter is granted PR, you can apply for her citizenship.
