HI Everyone,

I just registered on here as I need some advice quick. Last summer me and my husband decided to move back to Canada. I am born Canadian and my husband is British. We have 3 children aged 3, 5 and 6 and they only have British passport. When I started looking into moving back I applied for Family Sponsorship outside Canada for my husband and children as I thought that was the way to go. I was gonna get their sponsorship and then apply for their passport once in Canada. On another forum someone told me my kids could not be sponsored as they are already Canadian by default and they will need passport for their permanent entry to Canada. I was hoping to move at the beginning of August to register them for school but now I am being told they will need a passport for that but the waiting time is over a year. I am not sure what to do now and if the temporary passport is applicable because my children are over 2 years old.

Thanks!

Your children are Canadian and I don't think it takes one year for them to get passport. Contact the Canadian Embassy in your country and they will tell you what to do step by step

thanks for the reply. The embassy of Canada in London is so difficult to get hold off anybody! Have sent an email so hopefully they'll be able to clarify what my options are.

Hi

Your children cannot be sponsored. Including them in your husband's sponsorship app will most likely cause some delays. Have you heard anything from the VO yet?

You need to apply for their Certificates of Citizenship. They do not require Canadian passports to be able to enter Canada; they will have no issues entering on their British passports, especially with proof that you've applied for the citizenship certificates.

Once the certificates arrive, you can then apply for the children's Canadian passports.
